# Unsaved changes in a quote

An estimate is often the better part of an hour's work. Bulido protects it in two independent ways.

## The warning before you leave

If the editor holds changes you haven't saved and you try to leave, you'll be asked what to do:

- **Save** — saves the quote and leaves.
- **Leave without saving** — abandons the changes.
- **Back to editing** — dismisses the question and leaves you in the editor.

The warning appears whether you're writing a new quote or editing an existing one, and it covers the Cancel button, moving to another section from the sidebar, and closing the browser tab.

If you choose **Save** and the quote is missing required fields, the save cannot go through. The dialog closes and you stay in the editor with the missing fields highlighted — nothing is lost.

## Changes kept in the background

Separately from the warning, Bulido keeps your work as you go: first in your device's storage, and every few seconds on the server as well. That covers the situations where no warning can appear — the browser being closed by the system, a flat battery, an expired session, or the Back button.

When you next open the same quote, Bulido asks whether to restore the unsaved changes. You'll see how long ago they were kept, and you decide:

- **Yes, restore them** — loads the changes into the editor. You still need to save the quote to make them permanent.
- **No, start from the saved version** — discards them and opens the quote as it stands.

### When the changes won't be offered back

- **The quote changed in the meantime.** If the same quote was edited elsewhere — on your phone, on another computer — after the changes were kept, they're discarded. Restoring them would undo work that has already been saved.
- **More than 7 days have passed.** Kept changes are removed after a week.
- **The quote was deleted.** There's nothing left to restore them into.

## Working without a signal

Saving to your device works offline too, so your changes are safe when you're in a basement or on a site with no signal. Once the connection is back, Bulido sends them on to the server.
